Pentecost 2026 by the Baltic Sea with a dog: 5 ideas for a lodge break in Glücksburg
Pentecost 2026 falls on 24/25 May — five quiet days in a row if you take the bridge day. At the Ostseelodges Glücksburg the dog is not just permitted but expected. We have five tips for lodge guests with four-legged friends: from the dog-friendly beach to the fjord hike with water-bowl stops.
Pentecost 2026: why the Baltic Sea with a dog is especially worth it right now
Pentecost Sunday and Monday fall in 2026 on 24 and 25 May. With the bridge day directly before (Friday 22 May) and the regular weekend you get a 5-day block — perfect for a break in one of the Ostseelodges in Glücksburg. Unlike the North Sea or Sylt: here dogs are welcome in most lodges, not just tolerated.
1. Holnis dog beach — 12 minutes from the lodge
The Holnis dog beach sits directly north of Glücksburg on the Holnis peninsula and is open year-round for off-leash walks. In May the water temperature is around 13 degrees — cold, but ideal for many dogs. Parking available (paid, 4 € per day), with the option to rinse off afterwards using the lodge's outdoor shower.
2. Fjord hike with water-bowl stops
From the lodge grounds the Gendarmstien trail runs 90 minutes along the fjord shore toward Holnis. Three stations where we have deposited water bowls: at the Wassersleben viewpoint, at the Quellental sandbank, at the northern exit of Holnis. The route is easy with a dog; surface is sand and firm ground.
3. Dog-friendliness in the lodges
In all 26 lodges and 7 apartments, dogs are welcome. Included at no extra cost: water bowl, blanket set in the lodge, dog snack in the welcome package. Vet in case of emergency: Tierarztpraxis Dr. Petersen in Glücksburg, 24-hour emergency line.
4. Pentecost brunch at Restaurant Glückselig
On Pentecost Sunday we host the annual Pentecost brunch at the Glückselig beach restaurant — on the fjord terrace, dog-friendly. Reservation required (limited seats), 39 € per person, dogs free.
5. Boat trip to Sønderborg (DK)
The MS Rosa runs three times daily over Pentecost from the Wassersleben jetty toward Sønderborg in Denmark. Dogs are allowed on board (small dogs free, large dogs 5 € per leg). On a clear day you can see the old Düppel fortifications on the Danish shore from the boat.
